TCS was entertained on December 5th by Theater majors from DeSales University, who performed scenes from Shakespeare for us. Some of the plays were familiar to the students who have been at TCS, as we performed them during our Shakespeare week in prior years. Examples of what the students saw were: Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado about Nothing, Julius Caesar, Midsummer’s Night Dream, and Taming of the Shrew!
The students, dressed in all black, began by reciting their favorite Shakespeare sonnets. Interspersed in the play performances were fun teaching moments where they explained alliteration, onomatopoeia, hyperbole and more. They encouraged audience participation with alliteration.
After their performance, students asked various questions, such as, “What were their favorite scenes,” and “How do they calm themselves before a performance?”
Watching the college students gave the students encouragement and creative direction for TCS’s upcoming Shakespeare play, “The Taming of the Shrew,” on Thursday, December 19, 2019.
