TCS had a field trip to Milky Way Farm on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. The trip had been postponed due to heavy rain the week prior. This day, however, was picture perfect. The purpose of the trip was to show students various employment possibilities that they might not normally think about.
Milky Way Farm is a historic dairy farm located in beautiful Chester Springs, PA. The farm has been part of the Matthew’s family for four generations.
The students were welcomed immediately by seeing a professional that trimmed the cow’s hoofs, and checked the horse for bacterial and infections in her hoofs. This is a well-paying job that we hadn’t even known about before the trip. They learned about the technology that is involved in the farm, as well as, the care and feeding of the animals on the farm. They learned about products that they make and sell on the farm to help the farm keep going—products like pumpkins, that they grow, and delicious ice cream that they make there.
We had an enjoyable hayride to end our trip and was treated to their delicious vanilla ice cream.
